Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you put together your playlists? Do you take requests?

From experience, I can tell you what the most requested songs are for various types of events, but you aren’t limited to those in any way. My collection of song tracks on CD is beyond 40,000, and if I don’t have what you want, I’ll get it at no extra charge. I want you to take an active role in planning the playlist, and I like to have your ideas within two weeks or at least 10 days ahead of the event. I also welcome on-the-fly requests from your guests at the event.

  • How far ahead do I need to call to book you?

Holiday-related parties and Saturdays get booked farthest ahead, sometimes as much as a year or more. Shorter lead times are usually required for Sunday through Friday. For those dates less in demand I am happy to accommodate short-notice requests.

  • Do you take last minute bookings?

Yes, and at no extra Charge. FYI: Fridays are more likely to be open than Saturdays.

  • What are your payment and cancellation policies?

A non-refundable deposit of $50 is required at the time of booking, to hold the date. The contracted balance is due on the day of the event unless other terms have been agreed to in writing in advance. Payment is by cash or check only.

If the client must cancel the booked event, s/he may elect to reschedule the event at a mutually agreeable time; if that date is decided within 30 days from cancellation, the terms of the original agreement will stand. If, within 30 days, client elects not to reschedule, a $50 cancellation fee will be charged. If payments other than the non-refundable deposit were made in advance, they will be returned in full, less the cancellation fee.

In eight years of bookings, DJ has never cancelled a performance. However, if Throw Yo Hands Up Entertainment is prevented by unforeseeable illness or disability from providing services personally, you are covered in the following ways. If DJ is able to give more than 10 business days’ notice, he will elect to either 1) engage a comparable substitute DJ with client approval, or 2) pay client $100 towards purchase of a different DJ service. If DJ must cancel with less than 3 business days’ notice, he will pay client double the contracted DJ service fee, within 30 days of the event date.

  • Are you insured?

I offer my clients the option of buying insurance against accidental guest damage of equipment. It costs just $25 to be worry-free about anything that might happen during the event.

  • Do you have backup equipment, and do you guarantee your work?

I routinely carry additional sets of speakers, but all other equipment is maintained by me personally and updated regularly, so that the chance of equipment failure is extremely remote. My reputation, as well as the success of your event, is on the line, and nothing is more important to me than those two things. I guarantee that my performance will be free of equipment malfunction, or I will pay client double the contracted price of my DJ services that day, within 30 days after the event.

Throw Yo Hands Up Entertainment is not liable for loss of performance due to power failures, and will hold client liable only for the non-refundable deposit of $50. If appropriate, DJ will seek additional compensation from the facility owner and would advise the client to do the same.
